URAP statement on the uyghur genocide remembrance day

December 9, 2023

URAP urgently calls for global action against the ongoing Uyghur genocide by the Chinese government in East Turkistan. Despite the Uyghur Tribunal's damning verdict two years ago, crucial stakeholders, notably Canada, lag in halting atrocities and bringing perpetrators to justice.

On the second anniversary of Uyghur Genocide Remembrance Day, coinciding with the 75th Genocide Convention anniversary, we stress the gravity of China's state-driven genocide. The international community's failure to prioritize justice, despite resolutions from various states and the EU Parliament, is concerning.

Canada, though recognizing the genocide through initiatives like M56 and undertaking the resettlement initiative for ten thousand Uyghur refugees M62, falls short in addressing the Uyghur Forced Slave Labor in its supply chains. URAP urges Canada to fulfill obligations under international conventions and eliminate tainted imports implicated in subsidizing the ongoing Uyghur genocide.

Approaching the International Human Rights Day on December 10, URAP calls on Canada to take binding responsibilities seriously and collaborate globally to end the Uyghur genocide. The world must act collectively against China's continuous state mobilization in East Turkistan.

URAP urges the international community, especially Canada, to move beyond rhetoric and take meaningful actions to end the Uyghur genocide. Let "Never Again" not be an empty refrain, but a resolute call to action against the ongoing atrocities in East Turkistan.
