URAP Letter to Parliamentarians for bipartisan Parliamentary Resolution on acknowledging Uyghur Genocide

Letter to the Attention of all Canadian Parliamentarians

Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project urges members of Canadian Parliament to adopt bipartisan resolution for acknowledging the ongoing Uyghur Genocide perpetuated by the government of China.

Dear Honorable member of the Parliament

The Subcommittee on the International Human Rights of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development (SDIR), based on the evidence put forward during the Subcommittee hearings, both in 2018 and 2020, declared that the actions of the Chinese Communist Party committed against Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims in East Turkistan constitute genocide as laid out in the Genocide Convention.

Growing number of MPs have tabled petitions on Uyghur Genocide and joined the call for a Parliamentary resolution following the recommendation by the Subcommittee asking the government of Canada to “recognize that the acts being committed in East Turkistan(Xinjiang) against Uyghurs constitute genocide and work within legal frameworks of international bodies to recognize that acts being committed against Uyghurs constitute genocide

Prominent Canadian legal experts were joined by survivors of concentration camps to testify on the horrific details and crimes of genocide perpetrated by China’s authorities against Uyghurs on July 20-21, 2020 and  urged the Government of Canada to take action on stopping and preventing these actions from further continuation.

After recent new report detailed the forced sterilization, forced abortion of Uyghur women and horrible measures deployed to prevent the birth of Uyghur population, more than 22 Genocide and Atrocity Prevention Organizations from 5 different countries, including 16 senior experts, have expressed their grave concerns for the crimes and genocide taking place against Uyghurs in East Turkistan by China.

Despite intensified International outcry, Chinese Communist Party Secretary General Xi Xinping  doubled down on his genocidal policy against the Uyghurs, a continued commitment to carrying out these crimes over the long-term.

The unfolding Uyghur genocide – as the prevention and punishment of mass atrocity is a universal and multi-partisan obligation –  should be acted upon by all members of Parliament, regardless of political affiliations.

Dear Member of the Parliament

Canadians across the country are looking for strong action from the all Government Branches against the consistent threat, bullying and harassment by the CCP led China and its hostage diplomacy.

I urge you to support the call of a parliamentary resolution, urging our government to acknowledge the Uyghur Genocide and take meaningful action to fulfill our international responsibilities as a state party to the Genocide Convention and a guarantor of the rules-based international order.

Indifference and inaction in the face of genocide indulges impunity and encourages continued criminality. Your solidarity and support in this matter can therefore have a transformative effect. We trust that you will choose to stand against the ongoing Uyghur genocide.
